Spatial Measurements for Medical Augmented Reality

This paper presents a set of Augmented Reality (AR) based interaction techniques for spatial analysis of medical datasets. Computer-aided medical planning tools such as our Virtual Liver Surgery Planning System require precise and intuitive interaction for the quantitative inspection of anatomical and pathological structures. We argue that AR is a superior tool compared to desktop 2D or 3D visu...

Planar Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Au Clusters in Pushing Process

Based on the fact the manipulation of fine nanoclusters calls for more precise modeling, the aim of this paper is to conduct an atomistic investigation for interaction analysis of particle-substrate system for pushing and positioning purposes. In the present research, 2D molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate such behaviors. Performing the planar simulations can provide a ...

A GPU-based architeture for supporting 3D interactions

Most direct manipulation tasks rely on precise placements of the cursor on the object of interest. Commonly, this requires the knowledge of application-dependent geometry attributes of this object computed on the CPU. We present a simple yet general GPU-based framework for computing such attributes without depending on application-specific algorithms. It provides, for each pixel of the rendered...

A New Direct Manipulation Technique for Immersive 3D Virtual Environments

In this paper, we introduce a new 7-Handle manipulation technique for 3D objects in immersive virtual environments and its evaluation. The 7-Handle technique includes a set of seven points which are flexibly attached to an object. There are three different control modes for these points including configuration, manipulation and locking / unlocking modes. We have conducted an experiment to compa...

3D reconstruction of environments for virtual collaboration

In this paper we address an application of computer vision which can in the future change completely our way of communicating over the network. We present our version of a testbed for telecollaboration. It is based on a highly accurate and precise stereo algorithm. The results demonstrate the live (on-line) recovery of 3D models of a dynamically changing environment and the simultaneous display...
